As global relations continue to evolve in unexpected, but sometimes cyclical ways - ‘Plume’ is inspired by the imagery conveyed in first-hand accounts FROM nuclear bomb witnesses. The absurdity of the continued existence of nuclear-arms, as well as the irrationality of the sights and physical effects, that they have the potential to create, are reflected in the main phrase of ‘all the things I’m seeing, make no sense to me’.
The final repetitive call of ‘is there anyone out there who’s still listening?’ is deliberately blurred, to allude to two possibilities - one that this call is a warning for disarming before it’s too late, and the second could be a post-fallout communication.
lyrics
Verse 1:
A yawning void,
Rushed towards me,
Bathing the land,
In a white light sea.
While I raised my hands,
Closed-eyed, I see.
My shadowed bones,
and weaved capillaries.
Chorus 1:
All these things I’m seeing,
Make no sense to me,
We heard the stories, but choose not to believe
All these things I’m seeing,
Make no sense to me,
The horizon, rushing towards me.
(All these things that I’m seeing, make no sense, to me at all)
Verse 2:
We’ve only so much time, pulled to the left, and pulled to the right.
Particles fall,
In the plume,
It moves from us, from us, to the collateral youth.
Chorus 2:
All these things I’m seeing,
Make no sense to me,
We heard the stories, but choose not to believe
All these things I’m seeing,
Make no sense to me,
The horizon, rushing towards me.
(All these things that I’m seeing, make no sense, to me at all)
Bridge:
Anyone out there, listening?
Anyone out there, listening?
Is anyone out there, who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who won’t stare into oblivion?
Outro:
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who won’t, stare into oblivion?
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
(All these things that I’m seeing, make no sense, to me at all)
Is anyone out there who’s still listening?
Is anyone out there who won’t, stare into oblivion?
(All these things that I’m seeing, make no sense, to me at all)
